A Tunnel Bed or a Separate Tunnel and Bed?

One combined setup or two separate pieces? The useful answer depends on where your cat plays, where they rest, and how you use the room.

Your cat’s favorite place to play may be the middle of the living room. Their preferred nap spot might be beside your desk. Before choosing a combined tunnel bed, ask whether those two activities belong in the same place in your home.

A tunnel bed brings a passage and a resting surface together. A separate tunnel and bed let you place each independently. Neither arrangement is automatically the better choice; the differences become useful when you consider your cat’s habits and your room.

When one shared location makes sense

A combined design may suit a room where your cat already spends both active and quiet time. You can plan a single area for the setup and keep it available without moving two pieces around.

The ITNaps Cat Tunnel Bed has a square tunnel surrounding a removable center cushion. Two entrances sit on opposite sides, while the other two sides include mesh. Your cat can use the passage, the open cushion, or one more often than the other.

That arrangement is worth considering if you have a suitable square of floor space and want the two elements together. It does not mean your cat will necessarily switch between them or use both equally.

When separate pieces offer more flexibility

Separate products give you independent placement. You can keep a bed in a quiet resting spot and bring a tunnel into the area where you play with your cat. You can also choose each piece around a different priority.

For example, a cat who prefers a large, stretched-out sleeping area may need a bed selected specifically for that habit. If an existing bed is already well used, adding a suitable tunnel may be enough; there is no need to replace a resting spot that works.

Dimensions and storage methods vary between products, so compare the actual options you are considering. A separate setup is not always larger, smaller, or easier to put away.

Compare usable space, not product count

One item does not necessarily take up less room than two. The ITNaps tunnel bed measures 75 × 75 cm, or approximately 29.5 × 29.5 inches, across its assembled footprint. You also need space around the entrances.

Mark that square on the floor. Then mark the actual dimensions of the separate bed and tunnel you are considering. Check walkways, doors, and your cat’s approaches in each layout.

Our living room placement guide can help with that exercise. For your cat’s fit, assess the entrance and sleeping surface separately using the tunnel bed size guide.

Look at how each part is cleaned

Combined does not mean everything has the same care instructions. With ITNaps, the removable cushion can be washed in a laundry bag on a cold, gentle cycle with mild detergent, then air dried fully. The structured tunnel panels are wipe-clean and must not be soaked or machine washed.

For separate products, check each care label with the same attention. Ask which parts detach, which can be washed, and where you will leave them to dry. These details matter more to your routine than a general claim that something is easy to clean.

Consider what happens when your needs change

Separate pieces can be moved or replaced independently. With a combined design, check whether individual components can be removed or purchased again rather than assuming the entire item must be replaced.

The ITNaps center cushion is removable, and replacement cushions and panels can be purchased through support, subject to availability and current pricing. The tunnel also folds for storage. These features give you options, but they do not make it suitable for every room or every cat.

Choose around the routine you already have

If play and rest happen in different areas, separate pieces may make more sense. If both belong in the same spot and the dimensions work, a combined setup is worth considering.
